Having lived in 3 different countries over the past 10 years, Dan has become an expert at creating strong, long term profitable relationships. He has cultivated strong associations with realtors, property managers, fellow investors, bankers, and property owners alike and has been able to acquire properties that not only appreciate in value, but also deliver an excellent return to his investors, his partners, and to himself.
At age seven, Dan and his family moved to Victoria, BC, from Rye, England. Not content to do normal ‘kid’ stuff, Dan saw an opportunity to earn money from the ‘pog’ fad by buying them in bulk and re-selling them to his friends. His first steady job was as an early morning paperboy at age nine and continued this for five years. He saved and invested his money and was able to take a self-funded trip to Mexico with a friend at age 15, and to do so again for the next three years.
After graduating from Oak Bay Secondary School, Dan commenced working in the hospitality industry at the Chateau Victoria Hotel. His love of travel led him to Fiji and Australia for a year-long working holiday, where he made many friends from around the world and gained a variety of work and life experiences. Returning to Victoria after his year of traveling, Dan accepted a position at Moxies Classic Grill, and also gained strong business experience and skills working with Excel Telecommunications as a Training Director where he honed his salesmanship capabilities.
Over time, Dan became extremely interested in the Real Estate market and saw it as a great opportunity to grow, both personally and professionally. He also realized that many other people were interested in venturing into this market but found it difficult, not knowing where or how to get started. Dan saw this as an excellent opportunity to help others and immediately started researching and studying Real Estate Investment strategies. He also attended numerous workshops, classes and joined real estate investment groups across the county, which eventually led to the grand opening of Oasis Properties Inc., his own company, in August of 2005.
Today the Oasis Properties team has grown from a solopreneur business to include one partner, Greg Gillespie, and two other employees with future plans for expansion of experts in their team in the works for 2009. Currently Oasis Properties manages over 75 units with a value well over $15 million.
Dan's most recent accomplishments and accolades include receiving the prestigious award of Top 10 Player of the Year 2007 & 2006 by the Real Estate Investment Network(REIN) in addition to being names Rookie of the Year 2006; earning the status of being a Gold REIN member; and winning the Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 from the Victoria, BC Chamber of Commerce. His steady climb to the top in real estate investing resulted in him being featured in Don Campbell’s “51 Success Stores of Canadian Real Estate Investors”, and Dan has received prominent exposure in such publications as Monday Magazine, Douglas Magazine, Business Vancouver Island, and the Times Colonist. He is also the author of 90 Days to Real Estate Prosperity® which helps demystify the process of utilizing certain principles to achieve success in investing in the real estate market.
Dan also continues to give back to his community through his extensive involvement with the Easter Seals Campaign, where he and his team at Oasis Properties have been named the Number 1 Small Business Fundraising Team for the past two years, raising a total of over twenty thousand dollars to date.
